Many companies have first aid kits at the ready. Some people keep a roadside emergency kit in their car, and of course you should have an emergency kit in your home. But have you ever thought about how you would cope with a dental emergency? Many people never think about first aid for their teeth and mouth until the need arises.

At Kenai Dental Clinic in Kenai, , our dentist, Dr. Glen Lockwood is happy to treat you when a dental emergency occurs, but until you can get in to see us, you should make sure that you have a dental first aid kit on hand to help you deal with the situation.

What should you have in your dental first aid kit? Dental cement can help hold a crown or filling in place. Dental cement, temporary filling kits, and cotton pellets are available in most drug stores and grocery stores. Sterile gauze and tea bags can be used to help stop bleeding from an oral trauma. To help combat the pain, you might want to keep clove oil, a topical anesthetic and an over-the-counter pain reliever in your kit. Other must-haves include a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and or toothpicks, a dental mirror, tweezers and examination gloves.
